Most modern Macs (iMacs and MacBooks) have built-in iSight cameras.

Otherwise there are a number of alternatives:

Contents

Apple iSight camera (FireWire)

The original cylindrical iSight is no longer available from Apple, but can be found readily on the second-hand market. It's considerably better than the built-in models, if not quite so convenient.

any FireWire webcam

Any other FireWire webcam can simply be plugged in and will work under Mac OS X - there is no need for camera drivers.

almost any FireWire-equipped video camera

Almost - though not all - video cameras equipped with FireWire are similarly supported.

USB webcam

A USB webcam will require additional drivers. A number of webcams have driver support for Mac OS X courtesy of the manufacturer. Of those that don't, many are supported instead by the open source Mac OS X webcam driver project, Macam
